Italian Dinner

A few weeks ago, Anna, our Grade 12 Italian scholar decided she was tired of the food in Singapore and needed something that tasted of home. So she rallied a bunch of people, including house parents and myself, to help her cook and enjoy a lovely Italian dinner.
We started preparing directly after school on Friday, going shopping for ingredients all over Dover - hawkers, Fusionopolis and a small little market near Commonwealth. With about six people crowded in our tiny little kitchen, we began making the Italian dishes. Anna worked on the Parmageno, pasta, veggie lasagna and more with help from everyone. Wendela and Adam on the other hand kept a steady flow of potato chips coming right out the oven for everyone working. I made cookies so that after all the savory food, we would have some heavenly cocoa chocolate chip cookies to rely on.
Daystudents joined in the preparation as well because we wanted to make the dinner as fun and big as possible. Nandini, Renu and Melanie helped make the huge salad which we all enjoyed as something light and fresh to have along with the cheesy dishes.
Finally once all the food was ready, the common room sofas and tables were rearranged so that we could all enjoy our meal together. The food, as expected, was delicious and the conversation was lively. By the end, everything was wiped clean, and everyone was satisfied. As a thank you, the house parents made us all a cup of coffee with the special machine in their office. It was a perfect end to a perfect night.
The Italian dinner was one of the times I really felt like UWCSEA Dover is my home, and will always be one of my homes, no matter where I am in the world.
